Welcome to the Caravaggio Gallery

Though not appreciated by the ordinary people of his day, Italian artist, Caravaggio, played an important role in 17th century painting and was highly esteemed by other artists of his time.  His deviation from the idealized styles of 16th century Mannerism brought criticism but eventually influenced the development of the Baroque school of art and paintings of many artists to come including Rubens, Rembrandt, and Velazquez.

Here you can learn more about Caravaggio’s life and works by reading a short biography and examining some of his most famous works, including Supper at Emmaus and The Death of the Virgin.  Learn about the important people in his life and the legacy that he left to those artists that followed him.
